C# Best Practices
C# version 2.0 introduced iterator methods and anonymous methods, streamlining some common operations. C# version 3.0 introduces quite a bit more, including Lambda expressions, Extension methods and improved type inferencing with the var construct. At Guerilla .NET you will learn how these features work and how to use them together to write expressive code quickly.
Performance and Reliability
While the .NET platform makes it easier than ever to build software services it remains difficult to make systems that scale well, run for long periods of time, or have demanding memory requirements. Guerilla .NET brings you insights that can save you months of development effort as well as help you avoid nasty problems that show up when you get close to shipping. Guerrilla .NET will teach you how to improve your code’s performance by using threads and async programming to naturally scale to more processors. You will also learn how your memory usage patterns drive performance and “best practices” to keep in mind during design. Finally you will learn how to use exceptions and transactions together to improve reliability in your code.
Debugging
There’s more to debugging than setting breakpoints, inspecting variables, and calling Console.WriteLine. In Guerrilla .NET you will learn how to make your types debugger-aware, which can give you a richer debugging experience. You’ll learn how WinDBG and SOS complement Visual Studio and make it possible to tackle tough issues like memory leaks, thread deadlocks and unhandled exceptions in production environments.
New Technologies
Guerrilla .NET includes cutting-edge coverage of new .NET technologies. You’ll work with Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), build GUIs with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and see how Windows Workflow Foundation can help you build workflow-based applications. You’ll also get to see upcoming technologies like Language Independent Query (LINQ) and Silverlight. You’ll get a chance to write some code and see how current technologies will evolve in the near future, helping you plan effectively.
At Guerrilla .NET you will learn from a team of known industry experts and you will work and socialize with a group of peers, allowing you to get all of your questions answered quickly. A variety of social activities (including our tradition of challenges throughout the week) and a steady supply of caffeine will help keep your energy and interest levels high all week.
Pre-Requisites
This course is intended for working .NET developers are ready to build large-scale .NET Applications. We will move quickly, so you should have at least six months experience using C# to develop .NET applications. You should be comfortable with C# and familiar with common .NET constructs like Assemblies, Delegates, Attributes, and the GAC as well as the basics of working with Windows Forms, and ASP.NET. Sample code and labs will be in C#.
