Amazon Review

A project-based guide for computer programmers who want to program for Microsoft's database management product Structured Query Language using its strategic language Visual Basic. Assumes a beginning to intermediate experience with programming in Visual Basic: how to write and debug a program, comfort with the development environment, and how to use most of the common controls. Also assumes knowledge of Windows and a basic knowledge of SQL. The CD-ROM contains an evaluation version of the SQL and source code and examples from the text.

Excellent tutorial for VB users new to database access.
Excellent background explanations of SQL databases and ADO and how to use built-in VB6 database access. Good separation of DB design, VB data access, and web-based data access. Surprise bonus under web-based data access is difficult to find info on VB6 "IIS Application". Unfortunately does not include any reference for SQL Server 7 (language syntax, etc).

Useful, but sloppy
This is basically a good book and worth having, but there are numerous typos and outright errors which mar the presentation, e.g. confusion between "Delete" and "Drop". The examples are pragmatic and useful, but DON'T try to learn SQL Server 7 from this book--you won't.

Good idea, but poor execution...many mistakes
Like the previous reader, it is very frustrating trying to pick up new techniques when you first have to clean up the authors mistakes in code first. Also the author and publisher say to email them if any problems, well I have tried twice and they haven't responded yet!

Good way to learn, but book has tons of mistakes
Hands on is the best way to learn, and the project this book steps you through is quite useful. However, the book is littered with errors and mistakes. Screenshots are mislabeled and there are differences between the code samples given in the book and those provided on the CD. Very frustrating. Didn't they bother to edit this book before they published it?
